Celebration
Although we grieve the loss of those we love, we also celebrate the lives we have shared.
MARSHAL
Marshal was a typical gentle giant; trustworthy, solid, patient and kind. He met his numerous and serious health challenges with tolerance and acceptance. Lessons for us all.
BASIL
Basil had lived with an elderly woman for his entire life and the two had a close bond. When his person moved to a care facility, the family was considering euthanasia as the best choice for him, because he was unaccustomed to travel and change, and was unfriendly with other dogs; two reasons that would make it difficult to re-home him. Basil had been my patient for several years, and I knew him to be a sweet soul with a joyful spirit. With the family’s consent, a new and wonderful home was found for him. Despite the concerns that Basil would be challenged by the transition, he enjoyed the last year of his life, responding well to the care and love he received from his new family. He has a special place in many hearts.
Jacob June 2000 – November 2013
My unconditional companion
JACOB June 2000-November 2013 Some dogs are majestic and noble, some are fiery and comical; some dogs are willful and independent, some are eager to please and are close. My friend Jacob, was all of these. The last puppy of his litter to be adopted, he survived his father and most of his litter mates, being unaffected by the tragic cardiomyopathy of Dobermans that was prevalent in his heritage. Although I abhor cropping, the decision of the breeder to crop Jacob’s ears and tail did not prevent me from giving him a wonderful home. He and I shared many joys and challenges, and his presence to me was always unconditional. I miss him still.
Tashi
Tashi and I met in August of 2013. Although he was suffering from chronic and uncontrolled diabetes, it was clear that he had a fierce will to live. Within a few months of diligent care from his loving person, Tashi’s condition improved dramatically, and before long he became his ‘normal’ self. Although at first he objected to the numerous ear pricks and blood collections that were necessary to monitor his diabetes, he soon accepted the process with a cooperative spirit. It was such a privilege to care for Tashi for the past five years, and to help him leave us with dignity when it was his time.
Maggie
Maggie was a German Shepherd with a sweet and loyal disposition, and a courageous and enduring spirit. Even when her mobility was compromised, with the help of her life jacket and harness, she loved to swim and walk. Whenever I visited, Maggie would greet me with enthusiasm and await the Crumps liver treats that she loved. She was an enduring and unconditional friend, and is dearly missed.
Morgan
So often, I have no words to describe my connection with my canine patients. Morgan greeted me with a smile, unwavering attention, a wagging tail, and an offered paw every time I saw her. Even when she was feeling poorly and unable to eat, she politely accepted my liver treats and rested her majestic body against me awaiting massage and cuddles. Morgan loved, and was loved. I think of her often and am blessed to have known her.
Louie
Although I only knew Louie for a short time, I was moved by his sweet, gentle, courageous and steadfast spirit, and his presence to his people, Nik and James. His patience was immense and his love unconditional. Louie will be remembered fondly by his family, friends and all who knew him.
